Cut Loose (scent)
A linocut print of a rescue dog and a figure in brogues and tweed trousers, Cut Loose is a humorous yet heartfelt piece about stepping out into the fragrant air—both literally and metaphorically. Each week at work, we played a bonus ball lottery. When I won, I used the money to adopt Bruce, a rescue dog from St. Francis Animal Welfare in Fair Oak. After retiring from teaching, I created this print to celebrate moving on and to gift to my colleagues. The colours and textures reflect the mixed emotions of that time—excitement and uncertainty, freedom and farewell. Bruce, captured mid-step, symbolises both companion and guide, pointing the way forward. The work holds a bittersweet energy: the joy of new beginnings, tinged with the weight of letting go.
